The first moblie phone was introduced by Dr. Martin Cooper. He made the first call on April 3rd, 1973. He was a Motorola researcher and executive. -
First Generation
The first commercially automated cellular network (the 1G generation) was launched in Japan in 1979. The difference between the First Generation of mobile phones from the previous generation was the use of multiple cell sites, and the ability to transfer calls from one site to the next as the user travelled between cells during a conversation. -
Nokia
Nokia came out with their own first mobile hand held cell phone. -
First flip phone

Second generation
In the 1990's the 2nd generation mobile phones emerged. The second generation introduced text messaging. 2G also introduced the ability to access media on mobile phones. -

Motorola came out with the first hand sized phone to where you could easily put it in your pocket. -
Bag phone
Bag Phones were manufactured from 1992-2000. The company that manufactured the bag phone was Motorola. When cell phones were invented they became out of style. -
Text Messaging
In 1993 Text messaging was developed and this allowed people to send text to one another. -
Blackberry
Blackberries were designed and devoloped by a Canadian company. Was first introduced as a 2 way pager. -
Bluetooth
Phones were able to be linked to other technological divices like headsets. -
Third generation
The main difference between 3G technology from 2G technology is the use of packet switching rather than circuit switching for data transmission. By the end of 2007 there was 295 million subscribers on the 3G network. -
First Camera Phone
Phones were able to take pictures and save them to their memory cards. -
First Smart Phone
The smart phone was able to access media such as email. -
First iPhone
The iPhone is a smartphone that was designed and marketed by Apple Inc. It is the first generation of iPhone and was announced on January 9, 2007 after years of rumors and speculation. -
Fourth Generation
The main ways in which 4G differed technologically from 3G was in its elimination of circuit switching, instead employing an all-IP network. 4G is faster then the previous networks.
