Before Henry VIII took the throne, he was regarded as highly accomlished academically and athletically. He was said to have "come home with three masses daily when he hunted" and been a musical genius, When Henry VIII wrote popular attacks to Martin Luther and supported the Roman Catholic Church, he became the "Defender of the Faith,' as named by the Pope. Henry VIII took the throneat the age of 17 on April 22, 1509 after the death of his predecessor and father Henry VII on the same day. -

The Act of Supremacy of 1534 was a piece of legislation which stated that Henry VIII is the surpreme head of the Church of England. This is called Royal Supremacy. The Act of Supremacy was passd when Henry VIII called together Parliment and declared that he was the only surpreme leader in Engalnd. -

Henry VIII's daughter Queen Mary I repealed many of the articles of Henry VIII's Act of Supremacy in 1554. When her protestant half-sister Queen Elizabeth I took the throne, she called together Parliment and restored ten of the acts which had been reverted by Queen Mary I. This act of Parliment is the Second Act of Supremacy, which replaced the original Act of Supremacy put into place by Henry VIII in 1534. -
