Harriet Tubman

  • 1820 Harriet Tubman was born

    She was born into slavery in Dorchester County, MD
  • 1825 She begin doing slave work

    She was at the ages 4-6 beginning to do slave work
  • 1844 She married a free black man

    His name was Nelson Davis
  • 1849 She escaped slavery

    this broke a barrier for her because she finally broke something she hated
  • 1849 She and her husband were seperated after she escaped

    Left her husband Nelson Davis when she escaped
  • 1850 A state law passed where slaves in the north could be captured

    They were now able to capture escaped slaves
  • 1851 She guided a group of 11 fugitives northward

    She helped other slaves escape
  • 1850-1860 she made 19 trips from south to north to free slaves

    she made the underground railroad
  • 1858 She was introduced to John Brown

    He is an American abolitionist
  • 1859 She was sold a small piece of land by senator William H Seward

    She was given land
  • 1903 She donated a parcel of her land to the African Methodist epascopal church in Auburn

  • 1913 Harriet Tubman died of pneumonia on march 10th at age 93
