Introduction to WWII
Britain forced India into WWII without asking permission from the colonies representatives. This intensified their relationship creating more hostility between Britain and India. This made the movement stronger and more noteworthy within the Indian people. Gandhi launched a noncooperation with the British. -
Two Religious Groups
India is made up of two religious groups, about 350 million Hindus and 100 million muslims. -
Nationalist Independance
The British had tried to support the Nationalists, but did not decide to include Indian Independence in the offer to the Nationalists. -
Bloodshed
Muslims decided to exclude the Hindus, and rioting broke out, along with 5000 people dead and 15000 hurt. -
Partition was Formed
The British Common house passed an act stating that Granted independence between the Hindus and Muslims for one month. -
Religious Group Violence
Many people moved to the Indian subcontinent and violence between religious groups erupted. Many muslims killed Sikhs and Hindus moved to Pakistan. Gandhi estimated that 1 million were killed. -
India gained Independance
With Independence India became the World’s largest democracy.
