  • Kameo : Elements of Power

    Kameo : Elements of Power
The earliest game I remember playing. My parents are both gamers and had an Xbox 360 when I was young. After my parents had both completed it, I became interested as I watched them play and wanted to try on my own. I loved the main character's design, especially because she was a fairy, but I was a bit scared of the graphics and story, so I only ran around the maps, making up my own stories with the different NPCs.
Rare (2005), Kameo: Elements of Power, video game, Xbox 360, Xbox Game Studios
  • Nintendogs

    Nintendogs
My first gaming device that wasn't shared by my family was the Nintendo DS, and my first game on it was Nintendogs. I sat with my sisters all the time as we played together with our little dogs. I actually had two dogs when I played this game, I forgot the first one's name but she was a Golden Retriever that I accidentally donated, and when she was gone I adopted another one a Dashaud named Speak (also an accident) Nintendo (2005), Nintendogs, video game, NintendoDS, Nintendo
  • Mini Ninjas

    Mini Ninjas
This was another game that I watched my Dad play, but it was a few years before I played it myself. Once my parents made separate accounts on the Xbox, I played it for the first time and loved it. The characters, maps and story were very appealing to me and I enjoyed collecting spells for the main character and finding hidden items. This was another game that I spent roleplaying and making up my own stories with. IO Interactive (2009), Mini Ninjas, video game, Xbox 360, Eidos Interactive
  • LittleBIGPlanet

    LittleBIGPlanet
The first game I played on my PS Vita. This game was mind-blowing to me at the time because of its customization of the main character and the options to create your own levels to share and play. After I completed the main story and collected all the items, I spent the rest of my time creating different outfits and making my own levels and stories within them. This game definitely facilitated my creativity at the time.
Media Molecule (2008), LittleBIGPlanet, video game, PS Vita, Sony Interactive
  • Minecraft

    Minecraft
Minecraft was one of the most influential games I played, and I still visit my old worlds today. I got it along with my sisters, and we played together in the 'creative' mode to make our own houses and other monuments. This game allowed for my creativity to bloom and the use of 3D space within the game defiantly broadened my thinking of 3D objects which ended up being useful in my studies today. Mojang (2011), Minecraft, video game, Playstation, Mojang Studios
  • Toukiden : Kiwami

    Toukiden : Kiwami
This game I also played on the PS Vita, and it was the first that I had bought by myself with my birthday money for the year. It was also my first introduction to a more action based game, with mechanics like armor, weapons, money and other upgradeable items that are featured in games I play today. I fell in love with the style and characters and enjoyed picking which ones to take with me on missions. Omega Force (2014), Toukiden: Kiwami, video game, Playstation, Koei Tecmo Games
  • Hatsune Miku : Project Diva X

Hatsune Miku : Project Diva X
This game belonged to my little sister but she let me play it. This was my first introduction to a rhythm game style, which I still enjoy today, and also an introduction to the music of 'Vocaloid' which I enjoyed in later years. This game was a way me and my sisters could bond. We even made our own characters for the universe, and was one of my first experiences creating an original character for a piece of media. Crypton Future Media (2016), video game, Sega
  • Royale High (on Roblox)

    Royale High (on Roblox)
This was a game I played after one of my friends told me about it. Royale High on Roblox was actually the first PC game I played, as nothing else was able to run on the computer I had for school. Even though the quality wasn't that high at the time, it facilitated my gaming interests of customization and roleplay and I played a lot with my friends and sisters online. I still log in sometimes today to see what kind of updates have been added. callmebob (2017), Royale High, video game, PC, Roblox
  • Super Danganronpa 2 : Goodbye Despair

Super Danganronpa 2 : Goodbye Despair
I got this game for my birthday and I jumped straight in, not caring that it was the second game in the series. The game aspects of mystery and deduction were very new to me and thus quite mind-boggling, as I stressed about getting the right clues to solve the various murders that happen. I became attached to the the characters and got so scared when I thought one of them might die later on. Spike Chunsoft (2012), video game, Playstation, Super Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, Spike Chunsoft
  • Child of Light

    Child of Light
This game is one of the most inspirational ones I have played. The story and music are amazing and the watercolour style was a huge inspiration for my own art both at the time and now. This game features 2D scrolling and turn-based combat that I didn't understand how to play at the time, so I remember often asking my Mum to help me with strong enemies. Ubisoft (2014), Child of Light, video game, Playstation, Ubisoft
  • Genshin Impact

    Genshin Impact
After I got a computer upgrade, my sister introduced me to this game and I can't imagine my gaming life without it. The game's mechanics of elemental reactions and strategies based on different character's strengths and weaknesses was so intriguing to me, and the style, story and characters have influenced my creative practices today. I also played this game during the height of Covid so it really helped my escapism. miHoYo (2020), Genshin Impact, video game, Windows, Hoyoverse
  • Identity V

    Identity V
I was introduced to this game by my friends and is the first and only one I have played that is a multiplayer, survival/horror type. I was actually quite nervous to play it at the start. The game mechanics of being a survivor who is trying to escape the map, and a hunter who is trying to stop them was intriguing to me and once I got better at it, I really enjoyed the times I spent playing with my sisters or my friends. NetEase (2018), Identity V, video game, Android, NetEase Inc
  • Animal Crossing : New Horizons

    Animal Crossing : New Horizons
I got this game for my birthday, along with a Switch. The game's mechanics of creating your own island and decorating it however you like was really appealing to me and I loved creating new houses and wondering which villager would want to live on my island. I found the gameplay and art style so cute and it is still a relaxing game for me to play when I'm stressed or just want to see the cute faces of my villagers again. Nintendo (2020), Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo
  • Honkai : StarRail

    Honkai : StarRail
I anticipated this game when it was announced and played it instantly at release. The gameplay was an introduction to turn-based combat that I could actually understand, and the character designs, story and events within the game are all fun to play. I love the mechanics of upgrading my characters so I can fight stronger enemies, and saving my resources for when my favourite characters release. miHoYo (2023), Honkai: StarRail, video game, iOs, Hoyoverse
  • Persona 3 Portable

    Persona 3 Portable
While this game is quite old, I only bought it recently and I am loving the story, gameplay and characters. It features turn-based combat, and is a RPG style game with mechanics like 'social links', where you talk to and help multiple NPCs with different stories, and 'personas' that act as the mode of combat for the characters, all of which I find really interesting and fun to play. Atlus (2009), Persona 3 Portable, video game, Nintendo Switch, Atlus
