Events leading to the American Revolution

  • French and Indian War

    French and Indians fought against Britain/Colonists/Indians for part of North America and Ohio River Valley. Both countries want natural resources found in this region. Britain Claims they are protecting colonists from the natives. Colonists helped fight with Britain/Indians, they were allies. Britain wins, proclamation line limits the colonists movement. They prevented war between colonists.
    Colonists are being taxed at the end for the first time.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar act was the taxes the colonists had to pay which were duties that raised money for the colonies. Britain maintained a standing army to protect the colonists against the Indian tribes.The acts raised money for the colony. Patriots didn't like these acts witch caused boycotts and riots against the colony's.The loyalists agreed with the acts because they would pay their taxed and loved the government.Britain had to make a right.Colonists had no say in what they did anymore.(Declaratory acts)
  • Stamp act

    The colonists had to pay for stamps when they bought paper items. Britain maintained a standing army to protect the colonists against the Indian tribes. The acts raised money for the colony.   • Townshend Act

    The Townshend Acts were placed duties (taxes) on imported glass, lead, paints, paper, and tea. Britain used the money for military expensive and for the governors. The reason for the acts used taxes to get down on bad colonists to reinforce ruling. The Patriots didn't like the acts. The wife's made clothing because of the boycotts and wrote letters helping. The loyalists would pay the act and fully supported the Townsend acts. British customs wedgies of assistance which aloud taxed collected.
  • Boston Massacre

    The Red coats were against the patriots Paul Revere made it seem like. British soldiers in Boston opened fire on a group of American colonists killing five men. Prior to the Boston Massacre the British had instituted a number of new taxes on the American colonies including taxes on tea, glass, paper, paint, and lead to a huge disagreement between the patriots and the British. The loyalist thought that this was no big deal. Britain opened fire leading to this.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea party was a protest by the Americans colonists against British in to the tea taxed that had been on them. This vent happens because the patriots didn't want to pay the tea taxes. The Patriots are the ones who tarted the whole protest. They dressed up as Indians. Loyalists were upset by the Patriots actions. Britain was very mad and upset about the colonists.
  • Intolerable Act

    The Intolerable Act was a act set to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea party. They lost, No meetings, lost land, Boston Harbor was closed, quarter soldiers, and trails in Britain. The reason for this was to punish the colonists for the Boston Tea Party. The patriots were very angered about these laws and they meet to discuss what to do next. SOME loyalists became more loyal and became to support the patriots and the people of Boston.
  • First Continental Congress

    12 of the 13 colonies sent 55 delagets to meet in Pennsylvania for a meeting to see what they will do about the intolerable acts.The meeting was to see if they should continue to rebel against Britain. The Patriots wanted to rebel against Britain but saw that Britain is far to powerful. Loyalists were mad and didn't agree with his meeting because they thought they were always right. Britain in response to this, Kind George ordered the most troops to for into the colonies.
