California clean air act 2004 forced auto manufactures like Ford and General Motor to provide alternate clean fuel vehicle such as Electric Vehicle. Due to poor sales and high maintenance cost, both company reclaimed back most of the electric vehicle. This is a great resource of how Electric vehicle start off at the dawn of 21 century. It reflected how the market responded to the electric car during that period of time. -
General Motor vs. Toyota
Fondness towards technology, the chairman/CEO of General Motor invested in battery powered car. Toyota at the same time put in production of hybrid car which offer higher mile range and less cost compared to General Motor's Volt(Electric Car).

America will have completed the transition from gasoline to electic car by the middle of the century
For the last 30 years, America has increased gas mileage of all internal combustion cars and light trucks through a program called CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) to reduce oil import. The electric car is still facing problems such as limited range and places to recharge.

Electic Vehicle Sales overpass Hybrid Vehicle
EV is a major sucess compared to Hybrid. Even though EV made a huge success in the United States, critics are afraid history will repeat itself as new competitiors in technology are introduced such as Ford"s Ecoboost which is a cleaner gasoline engine that is less fuel cost effictive that either EV or hybrid. General Consumers are still not ready for Electric Car
To this date, electric car still faces battery problems. The average travel mile range for EV is 200 miles while gasoline vehicle vehicles can go over 300 miles before refueling. Poor sales and lower oil-price affected the goal set by President Obama at 2009 to have 1 million plug-in vehicles on road by 2015. This article shows that electric car is still not a viable option for general consumers. Maybe in the future electric car will shine, but not only the battery problem is resolved.
