    The Missouri Compromise was a compromise that made Missouri a slave state and Maine a free state. Also a parallel line was created at 39 degrees 30'. It made the North part of the line free and the South part slave. Settled the boundary between New Mexico and Texas.

    Slavery

    Slavery was the main cause that lead to the Civil War. It either made people for it or against it and created conflict. Mostly people wanted to get ride of it.
  • Nat Turner’s Rebellion

    Nat Turner was a brave man. He led a rebellion through plantations in Virginia. All against slavery. 55 slaves and Nat Turner got executed. It was the Bloodiest rebellion in American South.

    The Wilmot Proviso

    The Wilmot Proviso was a legislation that if it had been passed it would have outlawed slavery in territory acquired by the US from the war. He spent a long time fighting for it but never succeeded.
  • The Compromise of 1850

    The Compromise of 1850 was a compromise that made California a free state. Also it didn't give slavery to some of the Mexican cession. It strengthened the Fugitive Slave Act.
  • Uncle Toms Cabin Book

    Harriet Beecher Stowe created a book called, "Uncle Toms Cabin." This book showed people the bad things slavery offers and gives. This widened the division between the North and South.

    Bleeding Kansas

    Bleeding Kansas was the main battleground for people against and for slavery. it was all started from the Kansas Nebraska Act. John Brown fought against slavery in Kansas. Brown killed five slave settlers in the Pottawatomie Creek Massacre. This event also started the battle between pro and anit slavery.
  • Dred Scott v. Sanford

    Dred Scott sued to end his slavery, saying that he should be free because he lived in the free territory. He lost because they said that African Americans weren't citizens. His case went to Supreme Court.

    Lincoln vs. Douglas

    Lincoln and Douglas both ran for Senator. They debated over slavery, Lincoln said that slavery should not be continuously spread, whereas Douglas said it can be spread. Douglas won Senator but the debates ruined Douglas's chances of winning president. Lincoln won the 1860 election. 7 states seceded after Lincoln won.
  • Battle of Fort Sumter

    The secession of those 7 states forced Lincoln to send supplies to Fort Sumter because it was an outpost outside of the Union. The confederates heard about it and turned back. This 34 massacre struck hard and thus started the Civil War.
