The Tasmanians
The war between the British and Tasmanians, killing alomst all the natives. This is a picture of the last full blooded native. While British colonizers and present day historians use the appellation "Tasmanians" to refer to the aboriginal inhabitants of the land now known as Tasmania, this was not the term these people used to refer to themselves -
The Governor Arthur
In spite of the claims apparently made in Governor Arthur's timber panels, Arthur declared martial law in 1928. The Tasmanians were now forbidden from making their seasonal journeys across their traditional hunting grounds. They were no longer protected by common law and the military was authorised to shoot and kill Tasmanians on sight. A reward of five pounds for an adult and two pounds per child was offered for the capture of any Aborigine, injured or not. -
