Causes of the Revolution

  • Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act required colonists to pay taxes on every page of printed paper they used. The tax also included playing cards and newspapers. The colonists were mad and irritated at the British so they protested/boycott.
  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre was when the British fired and killed 5 colonists. The men they killed were Samuel Gray, Samuel Maverick, James Caldwell, Crispus Attucks, and Patrick Carr.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The American colonists were mad and frustrated at Britain for the "Taxation without Representation" so they dumped 342 chests of tea in the harbor
  • The Intolerable Acts

    The Intolerable Acts
    The Intolerable Acts gave the Massachusetts royal governor more power. Giving this power to the governor gave more power to the British Crown. The act also gave way to the Royal Navy to blockade the Boston Harbor.
  • Common Sense

    Common Sense
    Common Sense is about getting independence from Great Britain to people in the Thirteen colonies. Thomas Paine wrote Common Sense. This is telling that the British rule was responsible for nearly every problem in colonial society.
