Catherine The Great of Russsia

  • Birth

    Catherine the Great of Russia was born her original name was Sophie Friederike Auguste von Anhalt-Zerbst-Dornburg. She was born during the enlightenment era.
  • Marriage

    Catherine married into the Russian Romanov family.She eventually replaced her husbands spot on the thrown. She continued to rule for thirty-four years. While she was in rule most of the attention was aimed at her personal life and not her accomplishments.
  • Catherine Becomes Empress

    After the death of Empress Elizabeth in 1761. Then Peter became Emperor, and was extremely cruel the people did not like him and wanted him out. Catherine was able to take control over Russia and declared herself as the only Ruler. She used reason and science to solve issues (enlightenment) and she wanted to serve the people.
  • Art

    During her time as Empress Catherine the Great mad many contributions to art. She collected paintings for the musem, and today the musem contains pieces from great artist such as Leonardo De Vinci, creating what is considered a world best art collection. She considered herself an enlightened ruler, and even wrote books on advancing Russians education system
  • War/ Achievements

    In 1768 there were wars going on in which the Catherine's army beat the Ottoman Empire, she also did a good job a expanding Russia's borders. She also stopped many rebellions from happening. Such as the rebellion of the Cossack's and peasants in 1733, and she also shut down Pugachev who was executed publicly in 1775.
  • Death

    Catherine died November 6,1796 of a stroke. Her son Paul the III took over after her. Though there is debate that Peter is not actually the father of Paul and that Sergei Saltykov is. As for her other children none of them are believed to be Peter's kids.
