    Nat Turner’s rebellion was a salve rebellion in 1831. The result of it were tougher slave codes and restrictions. Many people were injured or killed.

    There was so much tension and debate over the slavery issue that the Congress had trouble focusing on other issues at hand. The “Gag Rule” called for a raincheck on the slavery issue so that they could discuss other matters.

    Slave Revolt in the Cherokee Nation
    This revolt happened when a bunch of slaves escaped. They fought the police but they were eventually captured and killed.

    The war started due to a border dispute. It ended with the Treaty of Guadalupe. The treaty set the borderline between America and Mexico.

    The Wilmont Proviso
    The Wilmont Proviso was an unsuccessful attempt to bad slavery in the land won in the Mexican and American war. This increased conflict because the north wasn’t happy about the further expansion of slavery in the south.

    This act was a very controversial one to pass. Many northerners weren’t happy because it allowed slavery to continue even if a slave did escape from their owner. This act increased tensions further between the north and the south.

    The compromise of 1850 had good things for both the north and the south. California became a free state. The fugitive slave law was strengthened. Utah and New Mexico became popular sovereignty states. And Washington D.C. outlawed the slave trade.

    This Act stated that weather or not these new states would be slave or free was up to popular sovereignty. This caused a lot of conflicts within these newly developing states. Both pro-slavery and anti-slavery people wanted to defend their views and opinions on the situation. This caused a lot of tension and conflict between the two new states.

    Bleeding Kansas was a border war over the legality of slavery. The disagreement between slavery vs. antislavery resulted in lots of violence during the time of Bleeding Kansas.

    John Brown’s raid on Harpers Ferry
    The abolitionist, John Brown, lead and initiated a slave revolt. He armed the slaves but they were all captured by troops.
