The white house was used for the first time when President John Adams moved into it. -
Louisiana Purchase is Complete
The Lousiana Purchase is completed. The U.S. expands farther west and gains more territory from the French. President Jeferson attempted to buy foriegn land but it never worked. In the end, he changed his standards in order to purchase all the land from France, by using the implied power of the constitution. The U.S recieved enough land to double what they already had for a wopping 3 cents per acre or $15 million dollars total. This is ironic becuase he wanted to shrink the federal government. -
Erie Canal Is Completed.
The Erie Canal is comlete. This is major becuase you can now go from The Great Lakes into New York quickly. It was a 360 mile canal that ran through New Yor. It was crucial to the westward expansion and transporting materials to the great lake states. It uses an advanced lock system to transport boats in the canal. -
Telegraph Is Invented
Telepgraph is invented by Samuel Morse. It was created in order to keep the railroads in line to prevent accidents and keep times. The sender puts in morse code and sends it across continental wires to the reciever. -
Gettysburg Adress Is Presented
Gettysburg Adress is presented by Abraham Lincoln. Only one picture was takrn of Lincoln. People were there to see an entertainer before the President's adress. Pres. Lincoln's talk was disliked b many in the north due some of the things he said. -
Barbed Wire Is Invented
Barbed wire is invented. Barbed wire was a major factor in the westward expansion. It was almost impossible to fence off land. Cattle frequently escaped ranches. Women felt hopeless becuase they often had to move with thier families. They often resolved to prostitution. Indians often argued with miners over land. Barbed wire was able to makrk off land and keep cattle in. -
Transcontinental Railroad is complete.
The two different railroad companys combine the tracks with a golden spike. The railroad brought the ocuntry together, connectd the east to the west. Both of the companies making the railroads competed with different struggles to lay down the most track. They ended up combining with a cerimonial golden spike. -
Telephone is invented.
The first telephone is patented. Many men had developed scientific breakthroughs for the telephones. Once Alexander Graham Bell was the first to transmit sound it got better and better until the telephone had become extremely common. -
Centennial Exposition
The Centenial Expostion occurs.It was held to mark the 100th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. It celebrated not only a hundred years of American independence, but also the country's recovery from Reconstruction and its emergence as an internationally important industrial power. -
Brookly Bridge Is Completed
The Brokly ridge is completed. It connected Brooklyn and Manhattan. There were many people involved in the building of the bridge including women. -
Washington Monument is Complete.
Washington monument is complete and dedicated. It was 550 ft and completed 30 years after its architect had died.There was multiple shades of marble used to reflect the monuments construction.
