Before Becoming a Mother
I was an avid learner my whole life as well as an athlete. I enjoyed sports such as basketball, boxing, badminton, and volleyball. I tried a few programs such as business, and Bachelor of Science before finding my passion in education. I am very much a social person and enjoyed spending my time with my friends and family. -
Birth of my Girl
I became a mother to my then daughter at this time, and it was the most transformative experience I have ever been through. She is a true blessing, was the sweetest most quiet baby who also transformed into a spunky and active little girl. She is also an avid learner, sports fanatic and social butterfly like her mama. She can be a lot at times as she has very high energy and is so incredibly talented in the arts; she has a spark and light in her that I want to continue to nurture. -
Started B.Ed.
After becoming a mother, my. world shifted in a sense that I wanted a career that would afford me more time with my daughter. I wanted to be able to be a better mother and also learn how to best support her in her development. I have also always been drawn to children as I was a coach and the best auntie to my little nieces and nephews. I decided to move back home and raise my daughter where I grew up and go back to university with the support of my family and friends. -
Second Child
I had my son over the summer transitioning from my second year to third year. This was interesting to say the least, as I was immersed in my education and trying to balance school/life balance as a parent to two littles. My son was an absolute joy to have, he is so sweet and kind and affectionate. He is now 5 and is incredibly smart and kind to others; he is a little shy and introverted at times balancing the outgoing nature of my daughter. -
Teaching Career Started
I started teaching on a reserve with a group of junior high students who were not successful in mainstream education for a variety of reasons. This was my joy, I truly loved working with this age group and their unique circumstances as it often reminded me of where I was and I was able to guide them using my personal experiences to help them overcome obstacles in their lives. My students are and have always been a joy in my life that I am forever grateful for. -
Covid - teaching was not as joyful :(
Well, we all know how that went, the pandemic was a huge impact in teaching. I was no longer in person as much and eventually it attributed to exhaustion working in the classroom. I decided near the end of the pandemic that I needed a break from the classroom and sought out a new career. -
New Career - Not as Impactful as I'd hoped :(
I went to work in municipal government, in an Indigenous Relations department. To say the least, it was slow and arduous, and the management was not any better. I could not last among people who were not genuine and compassionate as in the teaching field; needless to say I did not last, even though I was good at my job. -

Started Post Graduate Studies
I started my journey in Graduate studies in the summer of 2022, where I was able to expand my passion for Indigenous education in the Summer Institute at the University of Alberta. Here, I was immersed in courses that focused on Indigenous students and how to best support them in the classroom from an Indigenous lens or insight into the depths of the complexities teaching Indigenous students. I was hooked, this is where I want to be.
