Tycho's observation of Supernova
Tycho observed a very bright start that happened to be in the conostellation Cassiopeia. It was believed that world beyond the moon was unchangeable, other observers thought it was just a terrestrial object under the moon. Tycho observed that it showed no daily parallex against the fixed stars background, which meant it was farther then the moon. It didn't move at all, unlike planets that have motion with this periodical orbital motions. This showed that it was not a planet, but a fixed star.
