Prepared a computer program on the Department's Pet Computer in Business Methods class. My program was a simple metric conversion application. -

Apple II
When teaching at Milford High School in NE, we had Apple II's in the library. Note that a TV was used as a monitor--black and white---and a tape cassette was the storage device---REALLY! -
Commodore TRS-80
At Fairfax High School in MO, we used TRASH-80s--that's what we called them. My accounting class had some assignments they performed on the computers. FBLA reports were also generated with a simple word processing program. -
IBM Personal Computer
BK (Before Kids), my husband and I purchased our home computer system for about $4000. It was a major investment but one we watned to do. I prepared my school worksheets and exams on the computer. The 5 1/4 inch floppy disks were our storage devices. -
Northwest Electronic Campus
Northwest was the first public university in the nation to offer computer access in a residence hall. The day the Missouri Governor "flipped the switch" was my first day of teaching at Northwest! We could send email on campus (only!!)....it was so cool!!! -
Northwest's Gateway PC
Northwest soon moved to personal computers. Gateway computers (with the famous "cow" pattern) soon were the desktops on campus in faculty offices and in computer labs. This offered then computer programs such as Coral WordPerfect, Microsoft Office, the use of 5 1/4 inch floppy disks, and then soon 3 1/2 inch floppy disks. -
Northwest EC + Notebook Computers
A Notebook computer initiataive was launched by Northwest in 1995. I was part of this pilot and taught classes where students brought their notebooks computers to class. This integration of computers in classes was one of the early programs in the nation. Note that the RAM of the notebook was only 16MB. That certainly wouldn't support today's files and programs! -
Laptops at Northwest
Changes to the laptop distribution program were underway at Northwest. Soon all students would have a Northwest laptop. Wi-fi was still not available, so tethered computers to Ethernet was still required. -
HP Tablet PC's
Faculty at Northwest received tablet pc's, which included inking and handwriting recognition. The convertible monitor could lay flat, requiring alternative input devices over the use of the keyboard. I moved from the use of a desktop computer to sole use of my tablet pc at this time. I hauled it back and forth every day to and from campus and home! -
HP Pro Tablet PC
I am now working with the fourth tablet pc that Northwest gives to faculty. I love the docking station with its many USB ports and its slimline design. The touch pad is very sensitive, so I usually use a wireless mouse. I rarely use the tablet features of inking and handwriting recognition, however.
