The First Laser
Invented by Theodore H. Maiman using a synthetic ruby with silver- coated ends and flash lamps as construction materials. Today, lasers are used in almost all industrial fields and are even used to treat cancer. -
Industrial Robots
Invented by George Devol and Joseph Engelberger, the Unimate was a robotic arm that stored digital commands and could move with six degrees of freedom. The first was installed at a GM plant and was used to move hot die-cast metal pieces. Industrial Robots are still used today to keep factories safer and to ensure precision. -
Cassette Tape
Developed by Dutch company Philips by Lou Ottens, and team. Two spools of magnetic film stored audio content. Users were also able to create their own recordings on a Cassette tape. People still use the ideology of making a mix tape when they create a playlist. -
Computer Mouse
Invented by Douglas Engelbart. The prototype was made out of wood and two gear-wheels. The computer mouse is still used on a daily basis for those that use computers for work, school or entertainment. -
Video Game Console
Invented by Ralph Baer. Known as The Brown Box this console was the first multiplayer, multiprogram video game system. Video game consoles have continued to be a popular activity to this day.
