    Slavery

    Black men, women, and children were all sold to white men so they could do work in the plantations. Most were treated terribly, with extremely harsh conditions. Sentence 2: Slave holders were often very wealthy and had lots of power. Most men didn't own slaves, but those who did were very wealthy and could stretch the rules.

  • Kansas-Nebraska act

    The Kansas-Nebraska act allowed states to choose if they wanted to be a free or a slave state. This voided the Missouri compromise and led to "Bleeding Kansas". Sentence 2: After the act was established, many pro-slave people and abolitionist both moved to Kansas, because they felt like they could change its views on slavery. Many fights and riots broke out, and people were at each other's throats, giving Kansas the nickname "bleeding Kansas"

    The congressional reconstruction plan put congress in charge of the southern states, meaning each state had its own congress.Sentence 2: This plan led to many black leaders being appointed,many states not agreeing, and the establishment of the Klu Klux Klan.

    Sherman's March to the Sea

    William T. Sherman marched from Atlanta to Savannah and burned buildings, took supplies, and raided everything in the army's path. Sentence 2: It was very easy for Sherman's army to push through because Robert E. Lee was trying to attack a Union base farther north, but Sherman had expected this and the fort was well defended. Since Robert E. Lee was busy in the north, Sherman just had to get through cavalry.
