Means "Land Between Rivers" because it's located between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. It's considered to be the world's first written language, religion, and agriculture. Due to its location, it was a melting pot of languages and cultures. -

Cities of Harappa and Mohenjo Daro
These cities in the Indus River Vally were very advanced for their resources. They had things like the Great Bath, which was essentially a giant hot tub and they had plumbing and sewage systems that would be envied by 18th century Europe. They were also overwhelmingly peaceful, as we have found few weapons from their vast land claims. -

Old Kingdom of Egypt
In the Old Kingdom, the people of Egypt had a pharaoh that claimed divine power over everything and who believed themselves to be gods. They ruled with the assistance of viziers. Pyramids were dedicated to their pharaohs and used as tombs for their mummified bodies and belongings -

This is when the civilization decided to expand their surroundings. They sent traders to places such as Kush and Mesopotamia. Pharaohs were not seen as gods anymore, but more as helpers and guardians of their people -

Rule of Hammurabi
Hammurabi was the ruler of Ancient Babylon and he wrote the Code of Hammurabi, which is a list of, originally, 300 laws for people to live by, both civil and criminal. Today, there are 282 laws. It was written to unify the empire as it expanded, create punishments, and abolish revenge. -

New Kingdom of Egypt
This is when Egypt became the most dominant power in Southwest Asia. They were defeating other civilizations while their economy flourished during this time. -

Shang Dynasty
This time period was an era of farming and ancestral worship. This is when China was just beginning to be a society, so they weren't incredibly involved in the rest of the world yet, as they were trying to get on their feet.
