The History of Play Station

  • The beginning of the Play Station

Its origin dates back to 1988, when Sony and Nintendo were working together on a Super Famicom (Super Nintendo) console with a CD-ROM drive. For more than a decade, consoles had used cartridges, which were expensive to manufacture and had little storage space. The CD-ROM could revolutionize the industry with its low cost and 750 MB of storage, and it did. Sony even presented this model at the CES show in 1991.
  • Nintendo chooses Philips and Sony is left alone

Nintendo opted for Philips to develop a CD player, and Sony was left alone with a half-designed console.
  • Development of the first play

Sony could not sell the newly introduced console because the technology was from Nintendo. Kutaragi revealed that he had been working on a self-developed CD player attached to a console with a 3D chip, and that they could create a console of their own.
To defend the honor of the company had to launch its own console. Thus was born the first PlayStation.
  • The brand is created

it was decided that PlayStation should be part of a separate entity, so it was assigned to Sony Music. Executives from the music subsidiary along with Ken Kutaragi and Akira Sato formed Sony Computer Entertainment in 1993. The Playstation brand was already a reality.
  • The Play arrives

    The Play arrives
Ken Kutaragi, considered the father of the PlayStation consoles, took what he had learned in the joint project with Nintendo and developed his own console, the Sony PlayStation, which went on sale in Japan on December 3, 1994.
  • Revolution

Equipped with a 32-bit RISC CPU at 33.9 MHz, 2 MB of memory, and a screen resolution of 256x224 pixels, the PlayStation, also called PS1 or PSX, was a double revolution: it added a CD-ROM reader and a 3D graphics chip. It was the first console of the modern era.
  • Hit

PlayStation swept the board, partly because it did not have much competition: Sega Saturn had a small catalog, and the Nintendo 64 was limited by the use of cartridges. But above all, because every year it managed to launch a game that created new genres, or redefined them.
Se convirtió en la primera consola en vender 100 millones de unidades en todo el mundo.
  • Play Station 2

    Play Station 2
The new PlayStation 2 presented a similar philosophy, but with much greater graphic power. Thanks to its 294 Mhz Emotion Engine CPU, 32 MB of memory, and 4 MB VRAM graphics chip, it allowed the use of realistic and detailed 3D textures, as opposed to the almost flat textures of its predecessor. Its standard resolution was 480p, but it had limited modes to run at 1080i. Once again, Sony again led the way by including a standard DVD player, something the competition lacked.
  • Failure & Success

This console at the beginning did not have much variety of games and in fact were considered as bad but after a while around 2002 emerged mythical games like Metal Soldier, Final Fantasy or GTA Vice City, to this we add that in 2004 came out GTA San Andreas which was the best selling game of the console.
  • Portable consoles

    Portable consoles
he PSP, was introduced in 2004. It was a true portable PlayStation in the sense that it could run powerful games. It was notable for its peculiar UMD discs that could even contain commercial movies.
  • Play Station 3

    Play Station 3
It was, without a doubt, a powerful machine, with a Cell processor created by Sony, IBM and Toshiba, at 3.2 Ghz, an RSX graphics chip from Nvidia, with 256 MB of RAM and 256 MB of VRAM. The PS3 went on sale on September 11, 2006.
  • Competition

Developing a console is becoming more and more expensive and resource demanding, they have to set up and maintain an expensive server infrastructure to offer online support. Microsoft took advantage of the whole Internet framework, thanks to its paid Xbox Live service and to the fact that it has more experience in the online environment, that is why the Playstation 3 could not prevail during the generation, in some countries it was surpassed by the Xbox 360 or Nintendo's Wii.
  • Play Station 4

    Play Station 4
After 7 years since the launch of its last console on November 15, 2013, Sony released the PlayStation 4 with a new PC-like model that is easier to maintain and transport.
  • Good marketing

Unlike last generation, this time Sony has managed to take the lead thanks to a clever marketing campaign in which it has put itself on the side of the gamer, allowing game loans and second-hand sales. In addition, the PS4 is more powerful than Xbox One. It was the fastest console to reach the one million unit mark
  • Play Station 5

    Play Station 5
Sony announced a new launch of a new console due to the displeasure of its public because there was no news for 7 years and no news about a new console, thanks to these messages Sony announced the launch of the PS5 which is the most recent console since it came out last year in November and is considered the console of better quality and performance that is currently on the market along with the Xbox x Series.
