The Battle of Gonzales
Come and Take It! The Mexican patrol reached Gonzales, and Alcalde Andrew Ponton would not give up a cannon. The Mexicans waited across the river , and the Texans used this time to hide and bury the cannon. Word went around that the Mexicans were going to return from San Antonio and leave with the cannon. As a response, !60 settlers gathered and elected J. H. Moore as their leader. They dug up the cannon and prepared to use it when the Mexicans came. -
The Siege of San Antonio
Texans heard about the Battle of Gonzales, and quickly volunteered to help. But when they came, the battle was over, yet they wre still ready to fight. So they decided to go to San Antonio and and drive the mexicans out of Texas for good. Cos continued to San Antonio, and sent 50 Texans led by Geogre Collingsworth to attack. During the short fight, the Mexicans surrendered. Then on October 1835, almost 300 Texans formed the Army of the People. -
The Consultation
Delegates gathered at San Felipe for a meeting called the Consultation. This was to decide what action Texas should take. Settlers who belonged to the war party urged them to declare independence from Mexico. The ones that were part of the peace party wanted to remain loyal to Mexico but fight against Santa Anna to support the Constitution of 1824. On November 6, 1835, the Consultation voted against an immediate declaration of idependence by a vote of 33 to 15. -
The Battle of San Antonio
Texans were leaving the Siege of San Antonio, but one day, Erastus 'Deaf' Smith said Mexican Soldiers were bringing horses and mules to San Antonio. People thought that they carried silver to pay the soldiers, so they attacked, only to discover it was just grass for the horses. People decided that they were going to San Antonio to attack, and after a long battle, Cos surrendered. -
Runaway Scrape
Families ran away from Gonzales because of Santa Anna'a advance and Houston's retreat. -
Constitutional Convention of 1836
The delegetes met for the second meeting of the Consultation, also known as the Convention of 1836. They declared Texas independent the next day, March 2nd. -
The Battle of Coleto
Fannin and about 300 others stopped in a field to rest. Urrea and his soldiers were there, they surrounded him, and his Mexicans and the Texas fought. -
Goliad Massacre
Texans against Mexicans in this picture. Mexicans fired at them in Goliad, and lots of the Texans died, as well as Mexicans. Only a few survivers were left. -
Battle of San Jacinto
The Mexican army and the Texans on horses had a small battle that lasted about 18 minutes.Then the other troops heard about it and it got bigger. -
The Battle of the Alamo
Texans fought against Mexican soldiers at the Alamo. It was a bigger victory for Texas.
