The Missouri Compromise
This was when the United States was buying and claiming land, but they were trying to keep the amount of slave and free states equal, so once they became states they had to make sure that it would be an equal amount of Slave and Free states. -
The Fugitive Slave Acts
The Fugitive Slave Acts say that if a slave runs away and is later captured, that the person who caught them can and must return them to their owner, and they can be punished however the owner seems fit. The second one that was passed said that the slaves must be punished more when and if they run away and are captured.
