Fremantle began
In April 1829 Fremantly "officially" began when the ship HMS Challenger arrived in the water just off the Western Australian coast. -
Settlers arrived
approximately 400 settlers arrived on the HMS Sulpher and Parmelia in Fremantle -
Population Increasing
By 1832 there were about 15 hundred people in the Swan River Colony -
Depression
There was a depression in 1843 that almost ended the colony forever -
The first ship
The first steamship to enter Fremantle's port was the H.M.S Driver -
Change from Free Colony to Penal Colony
Between 1842 to 1850 two hundred and thirty four juvenile offenders were transported to WA. -
Population Increasing
by 1868 the population had quadrupled to 22,738 -
Telephone Supply
In 1888 the first Telephone exchange was located in the Town Hall -
