Russia and Japan both wanted Korea and Manchuria. The two countries signed treaties, but Russia broke them. Japan attacked the Russians at port Arthur. People in Russia hearing of the news, lead to a revolt against the war. -
Workers Riot
Over 200,000 workers approached the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg. They asked for better working conditions, personal freedom, and an elected national legislature with the help of a petition they carried. Generals ordered soldiers to fire on tthe crowd and 1,000 were wounded and serveral hundred were killed. -
Dissolving the Duma
NIcholas the 2nd approved the creation of the Duma. Nicholas was hesitant to share his power. After 10 weeks the Duma was gone. -
Nicholas the 2nd brings Russia in war
Nicholas the 2nd made a very bad desisiton bringing Russia into war. Russia could not handle the cost of war. They did not have trained troops which lead to over 4 million deaths in less than a year. -
Women strike over working
Women textile workers lead a strike in Petrograd. 200,000 workers stormed the streets. At first, the soldiers shot the strikers, but later sided with them. -
Workers storm winter palace
Facotry workers storm the winter palace in Pertograd. They called themselvs the Bolshevik Red Guards. They took over government offices and governemt leaders. -
Treaty signed
Russia and Germany signed the treaty of Breast-Litovsk. Russia surrendered a large part of its territory to Germany and its allies. They objected to the Bolsheviks and their policies and to the murder of the royal family. -
The red and white
Leon Trotsky expertly commanded the Brolshvik red army. A civil war waged in Russia from 1918 to 1920. Several western nations sent military aid and forces to Russia to help the white army. -
Lenin changes government
Lenin changed the government to a small scale version of capitalism. It was called the new economic policy. The reforms allowed pesants to sell their crops, instead of giving them over to the government. -
A new leader
Stalin takes Lenin after he suffored a stroke. Stalin was cold hearted, Stalin took control of the communist party.
