Creation of the National Socialist German Workers' Party
This was a minor political party in Germany that beleieved in "nationalism and anti-Semitic ideas." -
Multiple Parties Want Control
The German government at this point was ruled by the Weimar Republic. This was basically like America's current Congress system. However, Germany had many political parties that were vying to be elected as the ruling party. -
Hitler Became Leader of The National Socialist German Workers’ Party
Hitler became the self-declared absolute leader or Fuehrer of the party. Right away he created a group later named the "brownshirts," as enforcement for dealing with opponents. One of his most prominent philosophies he had was that he blamed all German porblems on many groups of people including socialist, communist, and Jewish bankers. -
Hitler is Released
Hitler was caught trying to overthrow the government and was put on trial. He was then released but he vowed to make the NSDAP into a "legitate party" by destroying everything else from within. -
NSDAP Gaining Popularity
The NSDAP started gaining popularity with people who "felt ignored or betrayed" by Germany's Weimar government. However, they did not gain in terms of Reichstag or congress of germany because their message was unappealing. -
The Start of The Great Depression
The Great Depression in Germany started and the Weimar government controling this country did not respind well. This led the citizens of Germany to not trust their government and seek more redical ideas; such as, Hitler's ideas. -

Germany Gains Control of Austria
Some of the people in Austria created their own Nazi group in the early 1900's. In March 1938 the Austrian chancellor held a vote for Austrian independence. However, Hitler told him that the vote was rigged and that they had to relinquish their power or the German government or they would invade Austria. The Austrian chancellor refused and tried to get help but the next day Austria was sucessfully invaded by Germany. -
NSDAP Increase Government Representation
Due to the Weimar Government's failure to address and help the citizens of Germany during the Great Depression, the NSDAP became more popular. The increased their numbers of seats in the Reichstag (Congress) "ninefold." In this year they gained 230 seats in Reichstag. This made them the most represented party in the government at this time. -
Concentration Camps
Hitler created these camps in order to hold political prisoners. -
Hitler Becomes the Chancelor
Hitler persisted in his political presence and continued to gain power. However, the ruling president of Germany at the time, Paul von Hindenburg, did not like Hitler's radical ideas. He elected someone else as chancellor (lawmaker/prime minister). Hitler refused to accept defeat and persisted until he finally convinced Paul von Hindenburg to elect him chancellor. He was invited to chancellorship and to form a government. -
Reichstag Fire
After his election, Hitler was not powerful, could have been removed at any second, and had many critics. However, he used the Reichstag Fire to manipulate the laws in order to gain power. The president was allowed to suspend many articles that changed the limits of the government. Due to the rules of broad nature, Hitler was allowed to make his own legal limits. He put "restrictions on the press, (banned) political meetings and marches, and (intercepted) communications." -
The Enabling Act
The Nazis declared the Enabling Act to the Reichstag in order to allow Hitler to rule without consulting the Reichstag. In order for the Nazis to institute this rule they had to have a vote: which they rigged in order to win. -
The Start of the Nazi Rule.
Due to their ability to create rules without consulting the Reichstag the Nazis were able to declare that they were the sole ruling political party of Germany. The also went on to say that anyone opposing them would be met with imprisonment. -
Hitler Gains Support of German Army
Hitler killed "several leaders" of the SA which lead to him gaining the German army support. -
Hitler Gains All Control
The president of Germany died which left Hitler to be elected fuehrer or absolute leader. To do this he held a vote but it is believed that the vote was actually rigged. -
The Draft
Due to Hitlers absolute ruler status, Hitler was able to reintrocuduce the draft. -
The Rhineland
The Versailles treaty prohibited Germany from stationing any troops in Rhineland. However, Hitler disregaurded this and sent them into Rhineland as an act of defiance. -

This was a schedule: created by Hitler, in order to prepare the German military for war. Eventually they had ΅more than 900,000 soldiers, 8,000 aircraft and 95 warships." -
Expansion to Eastern Europe
Hitler was worried about Germany's self-sufficiency and econamy. He propsed a solution of expanding into Eastern Europe to collect their natural resources. -

The British Prime Minister and Hitler Meet
The British prime minister Neville Chamberlain wanted to stop Hitler who was claiming false things about Czechs in the Sudeten region. At the first meeting, Hitler convinced the prime minister of everything he said. At the next meeting, Hitler requested that he be able to invade the Sudeten region. In the last meeting, many powerful leaders met and allowed Hitler to invade Sudetenland as long as he did not go any further. On October 1st, Hitler invaded Sudetenland.
