Magna Carta
The Magna Carta traslates to "the great charter." This document guarunteed citizens of their basic rights of trial by jury and due process of law. It also protected the public from arbitrary acts by the king. -
Petition of Right
This document limited the king's power in multiple ways. The king could not punish any person for unlawful reasons. It also denied the king's ability to impose martial law. -
Boston Massacre
Brawls between citizens and British troops in Boston led to this incident. The public was angry with the presence of these troops and began rioting. Some of them threw snowballs at the troops which sparked the incident. The troops then fired on the revolters killing five of them. -
Boston Tea Party
On this day, people in Boston refused to return some shiploads of taxed to back to Britain. Boston citizens then boarded the ships and threw the tea into the harbor. -
The Delaration of Independence
This document was signed by all the delegates of the thirteens colonies which proclaimed that the colonies were now independent from the British Empire. It stated their reasons of their need for independence and established the basis of their new country. -
Articles of Confederation
The Articles of Confederation was the first "constitution" of America. It was established after the American Revolution. This document leagally established the union of the states.
