    My Reading Experience

  • Learned to read

    Learned to read
By the end of kindergarten, I was able to read easy books and appropriate books for my reading level.
  • First grade!

    First grade!
I entered 1st grade. I remember expanding upon our reading levels using websites such as starfall! Still to this day I remember that website and how much it helped me. I recommend it all the time.
  • Third grade

    Third grade
By third grade, I was very excited to be reading at every opportunity I could. My favorite books were magic tree house books. I liked reading because my teachers were encouraging us to read everyday.
  • Fourth and fifth grade

    Fourth and fifth grade
By fourth and fifth grade they started implementing grades on reading. They started to force us to read more, and also made us start to take quizzes on books we read without computers. By the end of fifth grade I hated reading.
  • Sixth grade

    Sixth grade
In sixth grade my reading teacher was Mrs. Bennett. She gave us one assignment that I clearly remember. We were to give a report in a famous person that should run for president. We were required to look up biographies, and all kinds of information. This is the only project I remember actually enjoying because it was all based on our opinions and what we thought. Reading about my person, Oprah, was so much fun for me.
  • Eighth grade

    Eighth grade
By eighth grade my love for reading had not increased but I was continually forced to read and give book reviews and reports all throughout middle school.
  • The Hunger Games

    The Hunger Games
When I was introduced to the Hunger Games, my view on reading changed drastically. I finally understood why people read books for fun, although I didn’t continue this after I finished the series.
  • Mrs. Robinson

    Mrs. Robinson
My junior year of high school, I started volunteering in a kindergarten class with a teacher named Mrs. Robinson. She always told me that I needed to read more and I just needed to find hooks that were interesting to me. So she created me a list of books, and that really got me invested in reading. That’s when it all changed for me. Reading was forever changed because of her.
  • College life

    College life
During my first college years, most of my friends spent their time out and about, partying with friends. I spent all of my time doing homework, readIng books, and reading textbooks. Since then that is how I have spent my time, whenever I have free time.
  • College level reading

    College level reading
Now I am in my fifth year of college and I am able to read books, including my textbooks, absorbing critical knowledge that I need. Most of my reading for school is done on my iPad.
