Morgan's gaming history

  • Birth

I was born, and the following day Spy Kids 3: Game Over released. Hmm...that may have been an omen.
  • Sonic Generations

This game was released in 2011 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog, and it was my introduction into the series. I took my interest to school and made a friend with the same interest, and we are best friends to this day.
Sonic Team 2011, Sonic Generations, video game, Xbox 360, Sega
  • Minecraft

Having its full release in 2011 and developed by Mojang Studios, this is the game I've sunk the most time into over the years. While I don't know the exact numbers, I'd guess I've spent at least 2000 hours playing. This game also sent me on a pipeline into creepypasta via the legend of Herobrine, so I blame Minecraft for my love of horror.
Mojang Studios 2009, Minecraft, video game, PC, Mojang Studios
  • The Sims

Released in the year 2000, this game is the oldest video game I've ever played. I vividly remember being told "when you're sending your sims to bed, do NOT click woohoo". Also, this is the first video game to make me cry, when my sim met a tragic end burning the house down with him in it.
Maxis 2000, The Sims, video game, PC, Electronic Arts
  • Cats are Liquid

The first game to make me cry with its story. Thanks for the lasting trauma.

  • Doki Doki Literature Club

Released in 2017, I went absolutely feral over DDLC for the whole following year. I wrote a (terrible) novel-length fanfiction for it - "coincidentally" I started performing badly in school.
Team Salvato 2017, Doki Doki Literature Club!, video game, PC, Team Salvato
  • Pony Island

A beeper, perhaps? Pony Island was created by Daniel Mullins, who would later develop Inscryption, another favourite of mine. This game also sparked my interest in ARGs and unfiction.
Mullins 2016, Pony Island, video game, PC, Daniel Mullins Games
  • Mafia

Mafia (also known as Werewolf) is a lying game that can be played with any pack of cards. I would play this game literally every day with my friends at school, and I wasn't very good at it but I had fun anyway.
Davidoff, 1986. Mafia. Card game, unpublished
  • Undertale

Considering Undertale was released in 2015, I was very late to the party this time. After hearing my close friend infodump about this game for five years, I decided to look into it myself, and fell in love with the game's characters, soundtrack and story. I remain very impressed that it was almost entirely made by one person.
Fox 2015, Undertale, video game, PC, Toby Fox
  • Danganronpa

Ah, Danganronpa, the problem child of my interests. This game sucks, the writing is weak and problematic, I don't like the art style, and there are some parts I wish had never made it to the final cut. That didn't stop me from enjoying it anyway.
Spike 2010, Danganronpa, video game, PC, Spike Chunsoft
  • Hollow Knight

Hehe, silly bug game. This game is my current favourite, with refined movement and fighting mechanics, gorgeous environments, a bangin' soundtrack, and a story equal parts engaging and depressing.
Team Cherry 2017, Hollow Knight, video game, PC, Team Cherry
  • Inscryption

Daniel Mullins does it again! Released in 2021, Inscryption is a deck-building strategy game and much more. I was once again drawn in by the ARG elements, and was surprised by how deep the story really goes.
Mullins 2021, Inscryption, video game, PC, Devolver Digital
  • Dinkum

Dinkum is a farming / town building simulator themed on the Australian outback. This game blends mechanics from Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley (in my opinion, the better ones of each) and I'd recommend it to anyone who'll hear me.
Bendon 2022, Dinkum, video game, PC, James Bendon
  • Rain World

This is an ecosystem simulator disguised as a video game. I love that Rain World doesn't feel like a series of predefined obstacles players have to fight through, because every single creature is doing their own thing at all times, moving, hunting, socializing...I also adore the procedural animations, and I'm a sucker for environmental storytelling.
Videocult 2017, Rain World, video game, PC, Adult Swim/Akupara
  • Sky: Children of the Light

In my mind, this game is a cousin of Hollow Knight's. A child falls into a broken kingdom, ruined by a king overcome by hubris. Infections that are opposite to the child's base form, environmental storytelling, conflict between light and dark, everyone wears masks...and so on. It's only natural that I love Sky:COTL as well.
