Texas Admitted to the Union
Texas broke away from Mexico and was its own republic for a ew years then asked to be a state. Congress and The President both agreed that Texas cold become a state. -
US Tried to Buy Land
John Slidell goes to Mexico to try to but New Mexico and California. The President of Mexico refuses to meet with Slidell. so John Slidell leaves Mexico without seeing the President. US and Mexico are about to go to war. -
US Troops Stationed at Disputed Border
General Taylor leads his army into the land that is claimed by both Mexico and America. -
US Declares War
General Taylor sends a letter to President Polk ansking to start a war. President Polk sks Congress and they agree to start a war. -
US Victories: Battle of Buena Vista
Taylor was outnumbered 15,000 to 5,000. Taylor and his soldiers managed to win because they had more effective weapons. -
Mexico City Surrendrs
The Mexican Soldes were not able to call in for back-up. The Mexican Soldiers held up the Americans for 14 hours, but the Americans still won. -
Treaty of Guadelupe Hidalgo
This treaty ended the war. Both the US Senate and Mexican Congress ratified the treaty.
