Internet
The ARPANET first went live in October 1969, with communications between the University of California in Los Angeles and the Stanford Research Institute. They were basically the hosts on what one day would become the internet. -
Email
Email was first developed in 1971 by Ray Tomlinson, who also made the decision to use the "@" symbol to separate the user name from the computer name. -
Morris Worm
On the 3rd of November, 1988, PCs from all over the world were overloaded with unknown processes that made them very slow. Every attempt to reboot or clean the system was unsuccessful because the processes returned after each clean up. This incident is known as “Black Thursday”. It was the first time that people had to deal with an internet worm. -
WWW
Tim Berners-Lee formally introduced his project to the world on the alt.hypertext newsgroup.Although invented many years earlier Mr Berners-Lee's invention married hypertext with the internet. -
Mosiac
User-friendly browser launched in 1993 that accelerated the popularity of the Web by displaying images and text together. -
Amazon.com
Amazon.com was founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994. Originally the business was based out of his garage in his Bellevue, Washington home. Tom Alburg decided to invest $100,000 in Amazon in 1995, which helped the company fund a better looking website and hosting capabilities. -
Hotmail
First webmail service founded by Sabeer Bhatia and Jack Smith. It was one of the very first services to offer free web-based e-mail. Hotmail was acquired by Microsoft late in 1997. Hotmail continued to grow very quickly – reaching tens of millions of users in just a few years. -
Google
Google first went live in 1998, it brought a brand new way to the world on how to search for and find information. -
Wikipedia
Wikipedia was founded in 2001 by financier Jimmy Wales. It is a free encyclopedia that has an open editing system that allows anyone to edit its content. -
Facebook
Facebook launched in 2004. Mark Zuckerberg and co-founders Dustin Moskovitz, Chris Hughes and Eduardo Saverin launch Facebook from their Harvard dorm room. -
Youtube
YouTube launched in 2005. Founded by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim, who were all early employees of PayPal. They developed the idea for YouTube after they had experienced difficulty sharing videos that had been shot at a dinner party. -
Twitter
Twitter was founded in March 2006 by Evan Williams, Jack Dorsey, and Biz Stone. Twitter is the fastest growing free micro-blogging software that allows you to keep in touch with people through quick, frequent posts and messaging.
