We watched a video about a man who saved another young man's life at a NYC subway station. Gives us an idea of what a Hero can be. -
John McCain's Book (1st Chapter about Roy Benavidez)
In his book (1st chapter), John McCain dedicates his first chapter to a man named Roy Benavidez. A soldier who risked his life to save that of 7 others. This also helps us define and give us an idea of a Hero. Starts giving me a better definition of what a Hero should be. -
Quillen Interview
Mrs. Simmons and Ms. Allen interview Ms. Quillen about her giving up her entire life to go and help out in countries where help is needed. Like in Central and South America. Ms. Quillen can be viewed as a Hero because she has given up her life in the USA to go and help out in poor communities in the Americas, where help is needed. She inspires me on how much a person can do, giving me an extra idea of what a hero should be. -
Talk to friends about who to choose as a Hero
This is when we were allowed to discuss what person we wanted to do for our project. Also we did the Heroes in literature. Ms. Allen was not there and Mrs. Simmons gave the substitute this assignment for us to do. As well as discussing who we would research. This assignment helped us discuss more options as Heroes for our projects and also gave us more details about what Heroes really are. -
Go to Library and research who to choose for project
We went to the library and used that computer data bases and make final decisions on who we wanted to research for our Hero Project. -
I found my Hero for my project!!
I chose to do Rosa Parks because ever since we studied her in Elementary School I was inspired by her standing up against others during segregation. -
Check out books for our project.
We were again in the library and checked out books for out project and finalize our decisions and make sure Ms. Allen approved. -
Start reading our Bibliography
We had the weekend to begin reading our books and begin research. -

At home or in class during DEAR we have read our books and continue our futher research of our Hero. My ideas of what a hero should be have not changed because everything is very related to my definition. -
