  • Ithaca College registration data excludes nonbinary students

    Students who identify as nonbinary at Ithaca College are left with limited options for having their gender identity recognized, as departments within the college can only classify students as male or female when recording enrollment data. Up until recently, the process for students to officially change their gender on college records required students to present the registrar a legal document that had their new gender listed on it, such as a birth certificate or a license.
  • H&M Debuts Gender Fluid Denim Line

    Swedish clothing company H&M designed and debuted a new denim line that is gender neutral. The line features a wide variety of styles and cuts that fit any gender.
  • Julie Andrew's New Children's Show Features Non Binary Character

    A new Netflix show for children that is hosted by Julie Andrews will feature a non-binary character. Julie’s Greenroom is a show headed by Julie Andrews as a performing arts teacher for her five puppet students. The puppets, who all celebrate a different branch of diversity, include Riley – a gender neutral character.
    Riled develops a persona for herself in the show as “loving” technical backstage stuff.
  • Blindness Clothing Company Debuts Gender-Neutral Clothing Line

    Designers KyuYoung Shin and JiSun Park of South Korean company Blindness debuted thir brand in 2013, but it was their last collection that really launched their work globally. Their The Danish Girl–inspired spring 2017 collection was filled with corset-inspired silhouettes, pearl trims, and millennial-pink ruffles — mostly shown on men.
  • California's proposition to add third gender to state documents

    Senate Bill 179 would authorize the change of gender on the new birth certificate to be female, male, or nonbinary. SB 179 would delete the requirement that transgender applicants for changed-sex status on their birth certificate have undergone “any treatment,” such as body-disfiguring “sex-reassignment surgeries,” such as a man “transitioning” to become a self-described “woman,” or opposite-sex hormone therapies.
  • Gender Non-Binary 'Billions' Star Resolves Category Placement

    Asia Kate Dillon, who identifies as "gender non-binary" and who portrays the gender non-binary character Taylor on Showtime's Billions sent a letter to that effect to the TV Academy in late March. The Academy informed Dillon that, per existing rules, a performer may enter as either an actor or an actress, whichever the performer more closely identifies as.
