French and Indian War
--The French and Indian war was when the French and Indians were fighting against the British and the colonists for land.
--After the battle Britain lost alot of money fighting against the
French and Indians and they were in debt. That is why Britain taxed the colonists even though the colonists didn't like it. -
The proclamation of 1763
The Proclamation of 1763 proclaimed that Colonists couldn't settle past a line drawn along the Appalachian Mountains.The purpose of the proclamation was to organize Great Britain's new North American empire and to stabilize relations with Native North Americans. That also made Colonists very angry because the Colonists had no say and they helped fight the French and Indian War but they got nothing out of it. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act taxed all papers These printed materials were legal documents, magazines, newspapers and many other types of paper used throughout the colonies. Like previous taxes, the stamp tax had to be paid in valid British currency, not in colonial paper money. The purpose of the Stamp Act was to pay off the debt that King George III had during the wars Britain had (Guns, soldiers, food for the soldiers). -
Quartering Act
The Quartering Act is when the parliment made a law saying that the colonists must provide a shelter, food, and service to the British soldiers. Most colonists treated the soldiers badly. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was the killing of five colonists by British regulars on March 5, 1770. A mob formed around a British soldier. He was eventually supported by eight additional soldiers, who were subjected to threats and thrown objects. They fired into the crowd, without orders, instantly killing three people and wounding others. Two more people died later of wounds. -
Boston Tea Party
was a political protest by the Sons of Liberty in Boston, a city in the British colony of Massachusetts, against the tax policy of the British government and the East India Company that controlled all the tea imported into the colonies. On December 16, 1773, after officials in Boston refused to return three shiploads of taxed tea to Britain, a group of colonists dressed as indians boarded the ships and destroyed the tea by
throwing it into Boston Harbor. -
The First Continental Congress
The First Contenental Congress was when all the colonists on the 12 colonies came together. It was called in response to the passage of the Intolerable Acts by the British Parliament. The Intolerable Acts had punished Boston for the Boston Tea Party.
