  • Morrill Act of 1862

    Morrill Act of 1862
    The Act donated 30,000 acres of land to every state that was in the Union. The profits from selling off part of the land allowed states to open colleges on the remaining land. The Act infuenced the profession by allowing middle class working families to attend college. The education was also "practiocal."
  • Segregation Abolished

    Segregation Abolished
    The Supreme court ruled that states could not require segregation. This influenced the profession because it was putting students together no matter what their culture and made it easier for blacks to succeed.
  • ESEA

    ESEA
    The Elementary and Secondary Education Act.
    The Act uses the governments help to give equal opportunity to all students. The funds help prepare teachers and provided things suc as text books, The Act ifluenced the profession by giving the schools the money they needed to make sure students were recieving the proper education.
  • Lau vs. Nichols

    Lau vs. Nichols
    The case required that schools offer "linguistic-minority children " help learning English and other subjects in school. The case infuenced the profession by making American schools open to many kinds of cultures.
  • No Child Left Behind

    No Child Left Behind
    In the 2001 No Child Left Behind Act, law makers updated the
    ESEA Act. They changed the focus from equality to quality of education. The Act influenced the profession by holding the schools to certain standards that should be met.
