    Garden of Children
    The name Kindergarten signifies both a garden for children, a location where they can observe and interact with nature, and also a garden of children, where they themselves can grow and develop in freedom from arbitrary imperatives. In 1837, having developed and tested a radically new educational method and philosophy based on structured, activity based learning, Froebel moved to Bad Blankenburg and established his Play and Activity Institute which in 1840 he renamed Kindergarten.

    Maria Montessori

    You have probably heard as the Montessori school system is being used in over 4,000 early childhood education programs. Montessori paved the way for the importance of children learning about things that they are interested in. She respected children and saw that they must be respected in order to be taught. She also believed that children learn by using their senses and being hands on in their learning techniques.

NAEYC is focused on improving the well-being of young children, with particular emphasis on the quality of educational and developmental services for children from birth through age 8.

    The idea that the potential for cognitive development depends upon the "zone of proximal development" (ZPD): a level of development attained when children engage in social behavior. Full development of the ZPD depends upon full social interaction.

    The National Head Start Association (NHSA) is a not-for-profit membership association located just outside Washington, DC. NHSA is the voice for 1 million children, 200,000 staff and 1,600 Head Start and Early Head Start programs in the United States. NHSA has worked diligently for policy changes that ensure that all at-risk children have access to the Head Start model of support for the whole child, the family and the community.
