Magna Carta (The Great Charter)
A group of English nobles forced King John to sign the document because the King was becoming tyrant and taxing peopple too much.King John had to either sign the Magna Carta or risk his throne the nobles had huge numbers at their command,many more than the king.
The Magna Carta include the rights of jury trival,protection of private property,limits on taxation,and some religious freedom.It said that no man-not even the king-is above the law.These rights enjoyed by the rich not the people. -
Mayflower Compact
Passengers of the Mayflower signed a writen contract that established the ideas of self-government and laws for the benefit of all.
It was the first written laws in colonies. -

English Bill of Rights
King James did a lot of things without consent of government. He acted on his own and made laws and treated people CRUELLY. So the Bill of Rights 1689 (made by the Parliament) was written to put him in place and to fix the problems that he made (perotect the citizens from abuses). It guarenteed English citizens certain rights and set a procedure for electing representatives to Parliament. -
Federalist Papers (1787-1788)
The Federalist Papers (85 essays) was written and published during 1787-1788 by Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay. The goal was to explain and support the new Constitution, explaining the reasons why the new Constitution should replace the Articles of Confederation. It open a debate with the Anti-Federalists over power of government and led to addition of Bill of Rights to the Constitution.
