The Kansas Nebraska Act
This was created the territories (at the time) of Kansas and Nebraska which was made by Stephen A. Douglas of Illinois. It made it so the voters of the time could decide if they wanted there to be slavery or not. -
Bleeding Kansas
It ended in 1861. It was a period of violence that was during the settling of the Kansas Territory. Both factions fought for control over it. -
The Dred Scott Decision
The U.S. Supreme Court held that whether enslaved or free, african americans couldn't be american citizens. -

Seven debates between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas for the Senate in the state of Illinois. Lincoln as the Republican candidate and Douglas as the democratic. Lincoln lost but then was made a candidate for president of the United States. -
Harpers Ferry
John Brown raided the Armony in 1859 in order to give the slaves of rich people weapons to protect themselves so that they could be free. -
Lincoln's Election
Lincoln was the Republican candidate who ran against John C. Breckinridge. Because of Lincoln's Election the 7 Southern states broke away from the Northern States and created the Confederacy. -

Where the first shots that started the civil war were fired. -

This was the first major land battle of the armies in Virginia. -
Antietam
The First major battle of the Civil War that was taken place on Union soil. It's the bloodiest day in American history with a total of 22,717 dead, missing, and wounded people. -
Emancipation Proclamation
This document declared all slaves in the Southern states are now free, and this law was made my Abraham Lincoln. It also announced the acceptance of black men into the Union Army. -
Gettysburg and Gettysburg Address
The most famous speech by Abraham Lincoln at the Soldier's National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. This was 4 1/2 month's after the Union defeated the Confederate Army at the Battle of Gettysburg. -
Andersonville Prison
This preserves the former Camp Sumter which was a Confederate prisoner of war camp during the Civil War. -
Reconstruction
The process of rebuilding the South after the end of the Civil War. This lasted until 1877, and took a lot of energy from the new president as well as the South willing to be put back together after their fall out. -
Surrender at Appomattox Court House
The ending of the civil war, where Robert E. Lee surrendered to the Union Army and thus ending the war. He realized there was no hope of continuing the resistance. -
Assassination of Abraham Lincoln
This happened 5 days after Robert E. Lee surrendered at the Appomattox Court House by a Confederacy sympathizer, John Wilkes Booth. This happened at Ford Theater in Washington D.C.
