The movement was seen as positive by some and helped blacks reach the goal of equality. It also was viewed as a negative impact by others saying that it was a violent organization who tried to divide whites and blacks. The Black Power Movement was marked as a turning point in the Civil Rights Movement. -

The United States Supreme Court decided that the segregation in schools goes against the 14th amendment and was ruled unconstitutional. -

The people of Montgomery boycotted the use of buses because of the segregation on buses. Rosa parks refused to move her seat on the bus just because a white man told her to move, she demanded to have some rights. The boycott lasted 381 days. -

Popular music such as "The Twist"started a large "swing movement" and had everyone dancing. Popular artist such as the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and more started to change music forever. -

The Nation Association for the Advancement of Colored People aided to the needs of colored people. The people involved in the NAACP helped to pass legislation to protect colored people. -
Sit-in Movement Protest
Four students at A&T college in North Carolina refused to give up their seats in a local diner. This protest was non violent And the students sat quietly and waited to be served. -
Civil Rights Act of 1964
This act ended segregation in public places and also banned employment discrimination based on race, religion, sex, or color. The act was signed by Lyndon B. Johnson. -

Hippies were of a counterculture during the 1960'sand 1970's. This group of people believed in peace and were known to be not violent and experiment with drugs. This movement was popular with college students. -
Voting Rights of 1965
This acted allowed black men and woman to vote under the 15th amendment. The voting rights act of 1965 was signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson. -
Watts Riot
The riot took place in the Watts neighborhood where racial tension reached a breaking point after two white policeman accused a back man of drunk driving. The violence that was after that left 34 dead, 1,032 injured, and almost 4,000 arrested. -
Bilingual Education Act
This act was singed by Lyndon B. Johnson and recognized the needs of children with limited English speaking ability. The helped with the special needs of these children. -
Martin L. King’s assassination
Martin L.King was assassinated by James Earl Ray in Memphis. Ray was known to be a racist and criminal. -
