'62 Center for Theatre and Dance
-
Period: to
Paresky Center
The Williams Campaign that began in 2003 funded the construction of the Paresky Center and the ‘62 Center for Theatre and Dance as well as renovations to Sawyer Library and Stetson Hall.
LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, was established by US Green Building Council in 1993 but gained more market traction in 2003. Construction on Paresky Center began in 2003, when the college made LEED the standard for all of its upcoming building projects. -

'62 Center for Theatre and Dance
A building whose construction began in 2003 as part of the Williams Campaign, the 126,000 square foot ‘62 Center for Theatre and Dance is a combination of new construction and renovation. It features MainStage, a space that can seat 550; CenterStage, a black box theater seating 150; as well as a glass-walled rehearsal space and faculty offices. While the building serves students and is home to student-ran dance groups, its construction process was also informed by such occupants. -
Hollander and Schapiro Halls
-
Period: to
Hollander and Schapiro Halls
A materials consulting firm, Integrated EcoStrategy, aided in the sustainable design of these two buildings. Ultimately receiving LEED Gold Certification, Hollander and Schapiro Halls are the first academic spaces on campus with elevators, rendering them handicap-accessible. While the college’s adoption of LEED as its prevailing green building standard in 2003 prompted the Paresky Center’s certification, the college’s growing commitment to green design prompted its replacement with Gold. -
Sawyer Stetson Library
-
Period: to
Sawyer Stetson Library
While planning for Sawyer-Stetson Library began in 1998, its construction did not begin until much later, as seen by neighboring Schapiro and Hollander Halls’--and the not the library’s--completion in 2008. Construction was slated to begin in 2008, but its start date was pushed to Spring 2011 due to the 2008 recession. While two structures that compose the Stetson-Sawyer Library complex today are visually distinct, they mesh well with each other and the surrounding natural landscape. -
Weston Field Complex
-
Period: to
Weston Field Complex
Like the Sawyer-Stetson Library, the construction date for the renovation of the Weston Field was pushed back due to the 2008 financial crisis. Perhaps due this gap in time between its original and rescheduled start date, plans for the Weston Field Complex changed between 2007 and 2013. As noted by student Chip Knight in a 2008 paper, the whole complex was renovated, with the exception of Lamb Field, to promote greater environmental stewardship and comfortable experiences.
