Leaving the village
The first thing that stuck out to me in the book was the family having to leave their home/village to go find their dad off in another adobe. -
"The camp"
Reading how Tewolde and Selamawi went through school at the camp in their small adobe was very different to how kids go to school in America. Kids in America would never get their hands hit with rulers, and beat on by other kids freely.
