    Alexander crosses the Hellespont into Anatolia. Alex's goal was to kill King Darius III and conquer the Persian Empire. The king didn’t think he was going to be hard to battle but Alexander the Great quickly won the battle of the Granicus.

    Alexander the great fights Darius at Issus. Darius had a bigger army but Alexander used the phalanx military formation to try to kill Darius. Darius got out of the battle and Alexander couldn’t catch him, but he captured Darius’s wife and children.

    King Darius offered half his kingdom, the land west of the Euphrates river, for his wife and children back but Alexander declined the peace treaty. He wanted to be king of all Persia and challenged Darius to keep fighting.
