838 Potawatomi Indians in September 1838 began walking the Trail of Death from Indiana to Kansas. While traveling the 660 mile distance forty Indians died. -
Trail of Tears
Trail of TearsIt all began with the Supreme Court case Worcester v. Georgia. After the ruling in favor of the Cherokee Indians, President Andrew Jackson issued the Indian Removal Act, The Act in general was completely opposed the ruling and granted permission to remove the Cherokee Nation from Georgia. Approximantly 4,000 people died on the Trail of tears leading to Oklahoma.
