Causes of The Civil War
-
Missouri Compromise
Main wanted to become a free state but the South said that wouldn’t be equal and that the north was adding more free states to knock slavery away. Instead the North had to add another state just so it was equal. Eventually they added Missouri as a slave state. -
Slavery
Slavery was and cause were Africans were kidnaped and put on a slave boat and they were shipped off to America (actually to the South.) When the slaves arrived they were put to work or celled at a slave auction. Slaves were treated like property and had no rights. Slavery was a big cause of the Civil War. -
Compromise of 1850
The compromise of 1850 was when the people from North or South had to decide whether slavery had been allowed in the joining states.Well if the states picked anti¬-slavery then the South wouldn’t like that idea and if the states permitted slavery then the North wouldn’t like that.so It was an hard decision. -
Fugitive Slave Act
The North had to make a law, to make the South happy and prevent a war. So they came up with a law that even though slaves were considered free in the North, the slaves were sent back to their owners. Nobody in the North liked that but nobody in the North liked war either. -
Kansas-Nebraska Act
Another cause that also led up to the civil war was the Kansas-Nebraska Act.There was a bill that split the county into two territories. The Nebraska territory was the North’s territory. The South’s territory was called the Kansas territory. They had to decide whether slavery was allowed or not. -
John Brown Rebellion
John Brown fought for freedom like some other people (they were called abolitionist,) so when he heard about the mob that burnt hotels and houses in the North, John Brown took action. John Brown was mad at the South for slavery so he created a mob that killed people. They attempted to kill 5 people. -
Election of 1860
Another cause that happened was the Election of 1860. The election was for president it was up against Jefferson and Lincoln. No Northern states voted for Jefferson and no Southern state voted for Lincoln. Still with that little problem Lincoln attempted to win.
