Classic Years
Findings from the excavations of the cemetery show that during the period of ancient times and classical antiquity, on the borders of the current settlement of Thermi, an important ancient city had developed.Herodotus, mentioned that the Gulf of Thermaikos took its name from the city. -

Christian and Byzantine times
During the early Christian and Byzantine times, Thermi, then called Sedes, was a rich agricultural area and was used for the establishment of joint-stock imperial monasteries. -
1224
Fourth Crusade
After the Fourth Crusade, Thermi came under the Crusader Kingdom of Thessaloniki (1204-1224) where it became the administrative center of the Kalamaria plain. At this time, the Venetian Tower was also built in the center of the settlement, which was preserved until 1955. -
1429
Turkish rule (1430-1912)
During the Turkish rule (1430-1912) the shares were confiscated and Ottoman farmers settled in Thermi, for whose needs a mosque was built as early as the 16th century. Until liberation, the "Sedes estate" belonged to Suleiman Pasha. -
Liberation
With the departure of the Turks from Macedonia, the farm came under the control of the Greek State. On March 11, 1917, by order of the provisional government of Venizelos, the "Sedes farmhouse" was occupied for the needs of the settlement. -
2nd World War
During the Second World War, Thermi was initially under German occupation and administration (04/1941-07/1943) and then under Bulgarian military administration and German administration (07/1943-10/1944). -
Development and evolution
After the 1970s, Thermi began to develop at a rapid pace and change from a rural refugee settlement to a modern peri-urban settlement with a growing population. In 1981 it had 3,120 inhabitants, in 1991 5,998, while in 2001 11,360. This explosive population growth is the result of the relocation of residents of Thessaloniki. -
Thermi's Dam construction
Worthwhile is the Thermi Dam, which is a magical place with an artificial lake, trees and paths. The aesthetic and environmental upgrading of the area is enhanced by the pine groves as well as a second dam, a short distance from the first. In the wider area of Thermi, five more dams have been built. It is an environmental park that combines the natural environment with recreation. -

2017 until nowdays
Since October 2017, the Municipality of Thermi has successfully joined UNESCO's "Global Network of Learning Cities". Learning cities at each stage of their development have the potential to benefit significantly from the exchange of ideas with other cities in the network. So our city with the 55.000 people ath the area is still developing.
