Jamestown was the first successful English settlement on the mainland of North America. Jamestown was founded in the Colony of Virginia on May 14, 1607. -
Mayflower Compact written
First governing compact of Plymouth Colony. This pact was filled up with general laws and rules that would benefit the colony and to help it establish order. -
Petition of Right
It is a major document that prevents the king from tampering with the rights of individuals. -
English Bill of Rights
This was a re-enstatement form that was presented by the Convention of Parliament. It lays down a guideline of rules for freedom of speech in Parliament. -
Albany Plan of Union
Was proposed by Benjamin Franklin in New York. It was an early attempt at trying to form together a union from the colonies under one government for one central purpose. -
American Revolution Begins
This was a series of events that helped the colonies become independent from the British. -
Stamp Act
An act that required printed materials to be on stamped paper produced in London and having a revenue stamp on it. It was a tax act that had all of the profit made from it go directly to troops located in North America. -
Boston Massacre
A heavy amount of British troops were in Boston and eventually after some struggle and frustration from some riots, the British fired their muskets. This action caused a huge uproar and 5 dead. -
Boston Tea Party
it was a direct action from a group of colonists against the British government. After some high up officials refused to return taxed tea to Britain, colonists took action against this. The colonists boarded ships and dumped all of the tea into the harbor. -
Intolerable Acts
This was a series of acts that was passed by British Parliament relating to the colonies in the North. this caused a huge outrage amoung the colonies. -
First Continental Congress
This congress was a formation of delegates to discuss the response of the Coercive Act from British Parliament. -
Second Continental Congress
Similar to the First Continental Congress, but instead, this one involved alot of colonial warfare and fighting for independence. -
Declaration of Independence
Is a statement that was adopted by the Continental Congress stating that the states are now independent and free from the British Empire. -
Articles of Confederation
The articles of confederation were the first constitution for the United States and specified how the government should be operated. -
Shay's Rebellion
This was an uprising in central and western Massachusetts. An uprising was being formed against the Springfield Armory, but the army was defeated and 4 people ended up dying. It was named after the main guy, Daniel Shays. -
Connecticut Compromise
Edmund Randolph suggested that a bicameral legislature be made. This was known as the Virgina Plan. -
Philadelphia Convention
Convention in Philadelphia, that met up to discuss problems with governing in the U.S. People did not want to be led under the Articles of Confederation anymore, so action was taken.
