Period: to
Web Page
This is the timeline for my journey into creating the Web Page. It includes my progress in create the web page itself and all its conventions such as banner, logo, images etc. -
Research on genre
We firstly began to analyse websites in the rock genre so we would understand what our web page should consist of. We decided to use safari as it produced us with quick internet access compared to other servers such as Internet Explorer. However, there wqas some disadvantages as sometimes it would lose connection so we had trouble connecting to some websites. I decided to analyse Linkin Parsk website as they are a rock band similar to the band we have chosen to do a video for. -
Band Ideas
We then used the internet to search for ideas for our brand iconography. We therefore searched google for images of our band and then created a powerpoint in Microsoft Powerpoint where we worked on ideas for images, banner, logo and fonts which we will use in our web page. Then we uploaded our powerpoint into slideshare so we could then embed it into the our blogs. -
Website Analyses
We once again used the internet to analyse Hollywood Undeads website so we could se how their website was laid a=out and how they used their conventions. This gave us ideas into how we will want ours to look. -
Blog Updates
Throughout the process of creating the web page we updated our blogs regularly to keep a record of how we come up with our final idea. The advantages to this was instead creating a blog on paper it was more organised, produced blogs quicker, held alot more information and you could import lots more into it such as images and videos. The only disadvantage was when the internet was down, and we had no way of getting onto the blog... unless our phones had good internet connection. -
Moodboard
We then created a moodboard on paper by using magazines and newspapers to collect images, fonts, colours etc to come up with ideas we may want to use for our web page. After this we also sketched a layout on paper on how we thought our web page should look. This gave us a chance to see how it would look all together and give us a little plan for each convention, especially the layout. -
Intro to iWeb
We were then introduced to iWeb as we used a lesson to make a practise web page for my school sixth form. We quickly discovered that this was a good software to use to create our web page because it was easy to work. The disadvantages however was that it limited you to where things could go so I felt that sometimes my web page looked empty. -
Using Photobooth
In order to get our moodboard and our sketch of the layout onto our blogs we needed to take a photo of the pieces of paper. Instead of using a scanner which could have taken some time we used a software called Photobooth on the macs where we quickly took a photo of our work and immediatley put it on our blogs. -
Logo design
We then moved on to create our logo. We firstly began by sketching ideas onto a piece of paper. Once we came up with ideas we started to work on the computer to create it. Lots of people in my class used a software called gimp which I use later on, however for my logo I used the paint software on the computer and then uploaded it to a site called picnik.com which gave it some fading effects and colour changes. -
Banner Design
We then began to create our banner in a software called gimp. This was a good programme to use because it gaveyou lots of choices on what to do to an image and made it look very professional, however the disadvantage was that it was hard to get used to as some steps were confusing... after alot of practise however it became clear to use. I got an image of the band off of google, and an image of the american flag and cleverly created a banner with them overlapping then included the bands name. -
Begin Web Page
We imported the banner and the logo onto our web page and began to work on other conventions on the page such as links. I therefore went onto google, got small navigation buttons of linked sites such as facebook, twitter, myspace etc and then linked them to my web page. This was easy to do on this software as it it gave you navigations on how to do it. -
Inert video
To insert a video onto iWeb I had to go onto youtube and find a video that I could embed. This was to show that a video could be seen in my web page. This will be where my final music video that me and my group create will go. -
Advert for Web Page
I created a advert to go onto my web page in gimp to tell viewers that there is a new single out. This would also link with my music video. After getting the mask image off of google I decided to change the colouring to black and white and added text. This was then imported onto my web page. -
New masks
Our group decided to create our own band identity by creating a whole new band. This meant we had to create new masks which we did. We then uses photobooth to take photos of the masks which meant we could then post onto our blogs. -
Band Photos
We then took photos of the band all together. This way we could use the images for the web page and the digipak. We took the photos with a 14 megapixel camera so it would be good quality pictures, instead of taking them on a device such as a mobile phone which may only be 5 megapixels. -
Upload to Blog
I decided to upload a screen shot of my web page so far to my blog so I could keep on record what I had done to it at that time. I just screen grabbed on the macs and then uploaded to the blog. -
New banner
I went back and created a new banner as I felt that I needed to include our bands image instead of the real bands image I used in my first banner. I created this in gimp and used alot more effects to mak it look more professional. once complete I uploaded it to iWeb and put it on my web page to replace my old one. -
Upload Digipak Cover
Today I uploaded my front cover of my Digipak to my web page to connect all of my work together, using the conventions such as images. It replaced my advert for the CD to show that the single was now real. -
Upload Music Video
I will finally upload my music video to my web page by using youtube so that viewers of my web page will be able to see the single is for sale and they can listen to the single itself. It will also show my final piece of coursework put in to create all three pieces combined. -
Using timetoast
We then used timetoast to answer this evaluation question, however on the blog it has some problems showing up, therefore I hasd to insert the links to the site aswell to see it properly. It also limited you to how much you could write for each post which was annoying. These were the only disadvatage of using this.
