The Battle of Iwo Jima was a battle fought for the capture of an island. With the Japanese out numbered 5 to 1 they survived in battle for 36 days. At the end of the battle there was 26,000 American casualties and out of the 22,000 Japanese troops only 200 surrendered. -
Bataan Death March
On April 9, 1947, 76,000 filipino and American troops were forced to march 65 miles to a prison camp. On the way there conditions were harsh, brutal, and many died. Only 18,000 troops survived the march. This march became a symbolic rallying point against the Japanese.
