She was a leading proponent of women sufferage, the right to vote. Susan and Elizabeth Cady Stanton founded the National Women Sufferage Association ( NWSA ). -
Illegal Voting
In 1871 and 1872, Susan B. Anthony and other women tested the question ( The fourteenth amendment declared that states denying their male citizens would loose congressional represntation. Weren't women citizens too? ) by attempting to vote at least 150 times in ten states and The District of Columbia. -
Carry Nation and The WCTU
The WCTU became the largest womens group in the nation's history. The WCTU spearheaded the crusade for prohibition. Members advanced their cause by entering saloons, singing, praying, and urging saloon keepers to stop selling alcohol. -
NAWSA Formed
The National American Womens Sufferage Association was the result of the combinding of two former organisations ( one of them being NWSA ). Some prominent leaders were Lucy Stone, Julia Ward Howe, the author of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic". -
