Jake & Delilah are married to each other,and live in a cabin. Jake leaves for beaver hunting & rendevous. Delilah Had her 1st child while Jake was beaver hunting. Delilah dies in labor, and names child Amos. Jake comes to recieves bad news. -

Amos is now living with Rebecca & Gil. Gil is Jake's brother, who is married to Rebecca. Gil is a preacher while Rebecca is a teacher at. Amos discovers his talent for drawing. Rebecca sees glimpses of a red-haired woman, who is Delilah. -
Rebecca's Death - Misouri
Rebecca is diagnosed with small pox. Then someone shoots her in the head. Amos ends up living with Henritta at the mission next door, with the Block Boys. Amos starts to do more chores on the farm. Eventually Henritta starts to see Delilah as her reflection. -
Jake Comes Back - Bittersweet Creek
Jake comes to take Amos back to Bittersweet Creek. Jake returns with a new wife - Blue Owl. Amos doesn't appreciate Blue Owl becasue she is an Otoe woman. Blue Owl attempts to build a bettet relationship with Amos. When they get back to their cabin, Daisy (Delilah's sister) & Homer are living there. -
Independence -Missouri
Amos, Jake, And Blue Owl leave for Independence. On their way there they dowse for money. They stay on farm land while they dowse. Jake teaches Amos to swim. He has an easy time floating, but sinks when Jake pushes him.Jake feels that dowsing is "Choking the life out of him." -
Back To Bittersweet Creek - Missouri
Jake, Blue Owl, and Amos head back to Bittersweet Creek. Daisy, Homer, and Finn are still living in their cabin. Blue Owl doesn't want to travel west. Amos is ready for the new adventure. Homer, Daisy, and Finn are going too.
