    Shooting galleries and ball toss games were very popular at this time. These games became a focal point of entertainment in these early arcades. The popularity of these games would pave the way for the renowned pinball machine.

    These entertaining machines were introduced around this time but these were made of wood. They didn't have plungers or lit-up bonus surfaces and used mechanical scoring-readouts rather than electrical.

    The first recognized example of a game machine was displayed by Dr. Edward Uhler Condon at the New York World’s Fair. The game was based on the olden mathematical game of Nim. It was played by about 50,000 people.

    In the 1950s, William Higinbotham created "Tennis for Two". He created this game as a fun diversion, to display other uses of technology.
  • The Brown Box (Ralph Baer)

    The Brown Box (Ralph Baer)
    Ralph Baer created the “Brown Box” prototype, the forerunner of the first gaming consoles. This vacuum circuit machine was to be plugged into a TV and would play a game in which two boxes would chase each other on screen. This box could be programmed to play could be programmed to play ping pong, checkers and four sports games.

    The all famous Atari was formed and pioneered the coin-operated video game industry with the game "Pong". "Pong" was the first electronic ping pong video game. Pong featured two rectangular bars that are used to bounce the ball into the opponents goal.

    The world famous "Pac-Man" was created around this time. Toru Iwatani designed the game with the development help of NAMCO and other companies. "Pac-Man" was a game in which the objective was to consume all dots on the screen without touching a ghost.
  • Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat

    Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat
    The two most popular fighting games were released during this time. Arcades gained massive popularity due to the success of these two games. In both games, two players control their respective character and fight until one character's "health/hitpoint bar" is depleted.
  • The Xbox and PlayStation

    The Xbox and PlayStation
    Around this time the two present-day console giants, Xbox and PlayStation were created. More notably Xbox, pioneered internet multiplayer systems. This allowed for people from all around the world to play video games with each other
